In tandem with the Perak State’s goal of planting over 100 million trees within the next five years, a tree planting ceremony was recently held for the community residing in Taman Rishah Indah, Ipoh.
On ground to initiate the symbolic tree planting ceremony was Ipoh Mayor, Datuk Rumaizi Baharin together with Buntong state assemblyman, A. Sivasubramaniam, Special Officer, A. Ganasen and other community leaders.
“In line with the state’s initiative which was launched on 5 January to plant some 100 million trees in the state under the “Our Trees, Our Life” programme, today’s programme is highly commendable.”
“Today’s programme is part of making our country “green” to safeguard the green areas in the country. Our efforts are also aimed at creating awareness among the public on the need to maintain a green environment.”
“This programme will also engage government agencies, the private sector and institutions of higher education and the general public to embrace the culture of planting trees,” said Rumaizi in his speech.
He also added that despite the current COVID-19 pandemic, the Ipoh City Council will continue its efforts to promote the green project.
“I am made to understand that some 10 seedlings of the Caesalpinia ferrea or commonly known as the Brazilian Ironwood will be planted this morning.”
“I sincerely hope that our session will motivate all parties gathered today to inculcate and create more awareness so as to improve the ecosystem and biodiversity of our country,” added Rumaizi.
Finally, he also called all parties to ensure that the state’s target of planting 100 million trees is achieved by the year 2025.
