SME Digitalisation Grant recipient elevates marketing efforts with new website and freshly defined goalsPublished on 28 March 2022
Financial assistance plays a huge role in supporting local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) hit hard by COVID-19, with more than 37,000 businesses shut down.
Various stimulus packages and initiatives under Malaysia’s Budget 2022 are designed to help entrepreneurs get back on their feet. Many local organisations and corporate institutions have also stepped up to offer financial aid to SMEs in need.
TM Info-Media Sdn Bhd (TMIM), a subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), answered this call for help by offering digital solutions and services which include financing and digital marketing for the country’s MSMEs. It kicked off into high gear with the prime utilisation of Yellow Pages digital platform, a product of TMIM and the leading digital business directory in Malaysia.
TMIM has also been appointed as the Technology Service Provider (TSP) for the SME Digitalisation Grant to help businesses leverage the digital economy and rise above the challenges of the pandemic era. This initiative is the result of the Ministry of Finance’s strategic collaboration with Bank Simpanan Nasional, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and SME Bank. One of the recipients of the SME Digitalisation Grant via TMIM is a manufacturing company, Longcane Industries Sdn Bhd that is based in Bukit Mertajam.
The company manufactures rubber and disposable gloves, and trades personal protective equipment (PPE). It began operating as a trading company focusing on gloves in 1989 and began manufacturing industrial rubber gloves in 1998. Longcane Industries then started to manufacture examination gloves in 2019.
COVID-19 has increased the demand for medical products, including gloves. The high demand has led to instability in product prices and more competitors in the market. Part of the company’s challenge was to develop new production with highly advanced machinery to cater to the local market. One of the motivating factors that led to Longcane Industries’s SME Digitalisation Grant application was to further develop its marketing investment.
The grant has helped this company reduce the yearly marketing expenditure, and it is being used for the current year’s budget. Now, Longcane Industries has expanded its reach by manufacturing and distributing latex and nitrile medical examination gloves, industrial gloves, and household gloves to the global market. The company’s investment in highly advanced tech machineries and staff training has largely contributed to this successful expansion.
Citing that advertising is important in marketing its products, Longcane Industries has also improved its online presence with a revamped website. The new portal showcases a simpler interface, making it easier for visitors to navigate for the information they need. The company has also added relevant information for consumers to further understand its brand and its journey in the local and international industry. Things have certainly looked up for this local SME.
