The Menteri Besar of Perak Datuk Saarani Mohamad launched the Cikgu Saarani Tuition Programme with the aim of assisting the students sitting for their examinations.

The programme is also formulated to help the needy and underprivileged students residing in the ‘Silver State’ and involves a total of 244 schools around Perak and 488 teachers.

Under this programme, a total sum of RM2.7 million is allocated to cover the students’ meals.

According to Datuk Saarani, the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates will be given daily lunch for 15 days at the respective schools’ canteens.

“Teachers will also give tuition and additional classes for subjects like Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mathematics and History,” said Datuk Saarani in a virtual press conference held earlier this month.

The Menteri Besar himself was a teacher in the early days of his career.

He added that this is one of the ways to eradicate poverty in the state. The programme will be extended to benefit some 30,320 Form Four students, 31,761 Form One students and 31,742 Year One pupils.

This initiative by the state government drew positive response from the community of Perak.
